For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. (Jeremiah 29:11, ESV)
Growing up in the church, you hear this Scripture all the time.
In every transition...
From children's church to young adults' group...
From elementary school to college...
This verse gets quoted at you.
You know the Lord has a plan for you.
You know His Will is perfect.
You know He holds no capacity for evil.
What else do you know?
You know that life has a way of ruining itself.
You know that good only seems to last for a short time.
You know that you can be going along a road that seems good and perfect and out of what seems like nowhere you get thrown a curveball that can wreck everything.
It is easy to lose sight of that good and perfect plan...
It is easy to lose focus on God and start focusing on the circumstances...
It is easy to forget that you have a future...
It is easy to forget about a verse that has become white noise.
What do we do when we lose hope?
The verses that follow offer up a solution.
Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. (Jeremiah 29:12-13, ESV)
All we have to do is seek him.
It sounds so simple, but it is a task that can be so daunting.
Allowing Him to take control of our lives should be one of the easiest things we do, but our flesh fights it so much that is often one of the hardest things we do.
It should be our nature to fill ourselves with our Creator, but often we find ourselves chasing the created.
When we chase the temporal instead of the eternal, we lose sight of our future.
We lose sight of the plans He has laid out since before we were born.
It is easy to get overwhelmed by life. It is easy to lose God in our circumstances.
However, He makes it just as easy to find Him again.
